Third-party services & processors
We use the following third-party services to operate the site. Each is listed with the data it processes and the consent or legal basis under which it runs.
- Google Analytics 4 - aggregated, anonymised usage metrics (page views, session duration, referrer). IP addresses are anonymised by Google before storage. Loaded only after you opt in via the Analytics purpose in the cookie banner.
- Google AdSense - ad delivery and (when permitted) personalisation. Loaded only after you opt in via the Advertising purpose and approval plus environment conditions are satisfied. Google's own privacy controls are at policies.google.com/privacy.
- Google OAuth (sign-in) - authentication for admin and commenting. We receive your email and profile name when you choose to sign in; we never request additional Google scopes.
- Cloudflare - hosting, DDoS protection, and CDN. Server access logs (IP, user-agent, request path) are retained for up to 90 days under our legitimate-interest basis for security and abuse investigation.
- GitHub - backend storage for committed articles, comments, and (fingerprinted + encrypted) newsletter subscriber records. Commits are part of the editorial workflow and visible in the public repository.
Personal-data transfers outside the EU/UK/EEA (notably to the United States, where Google and Cloudflare process data) rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses. Korean transfers rely on PIPA Art. 17(3) and Art. 28-8.
